Gray is an experimental noise band formed in 1979 by Jean-Michel Basquiat and
Michael Holman.
Besides Basquiat and Holman, other members of the original group were Nick Taylor, Justin Thyme and Vincent Gallo. Basquiat named the band after Gray’s Anatomy, an important reference source for his paintings. They performed at the Mudd Club, CBGB’s, and Hurrah’s in New York City. After Basquiat’s passing in 1988, Gray reunited and performed at Basquiat’s Memorial. Gray’s music can be heard on film soundtracks, such as: Basquiat, The Radiant Child, Downtown 81,Blank City and Downtown Calling. In 2011, original members Nick Taylor and Holman
Michael Holman and Nick released the first Gray album, ”Shades of…”
